2023 International Roadcheck Results Released

During the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual International Roadcheck, more than 59,000 commercial motor vehicle inspections were conducted in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. During the inspections, a total of 17,479 commercial motor vehicles 5,280 drivers were placed out of service and prohibited to operate for a period of time, or until the violation was corrected.

Each year, the CVSA brings attention to a category of violations during the three-day inspection spree to increase awareness of certain aspects of a routine roadside inspection. This year’s focus was on cargo securement and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). In total, there were 2,975 cargo securement violations and 4,127 ABS violations.

Here is a breakdown of the U.S. inspection results:

  • Tires (19%)
  • Defective Service Brakes (14%)
  • Cargo Securement (12%)
  • Lights (11.5%)

TOP 5 DRIVER OUT-OF-SERVICE VIOLATIONS

  • Hours of Service (41%)
  • False Logs (26%)
  • Other (9%)
  • Canceled/Revoked License (8%)
  • No Medical Card (5%)

International Roadcheck is the commercial motor vehicle law enforcement community’s effort to reduce commercial motor vehicle-involved crashes by inspecting, identifying and removing unsafe commercial motor vehicles and drivers from roadways. The CVSA has conducted more than 1.8 million roadside inspections since its inception in 1988.
